The Story So Far

The We Are Carbon podcast was launched by myself (Helen Fisher) early in 2022.

I’d always been bemused by the topsy-turvy, upside down way that our societies seemed to operate. What had become accepted as normal in the world around me felt unnatural and I’d started to question everything very early on in life.

Eventually I became clear on a vision for how I thought the world should look instead.

I published articles and even learnt to animate to try and explain my thinking.
But it all felt pretty detached. I had a range of life experience that brought me to many conclusions but this was all just one person’s thinking, it had no real place anywhere.

So I began exploring.

I searched for information and examples of projects and people who were demonstrating one part of that bigger, more regenerative society that I’d imagined.

Which is where the We Are Carbon podcast began.

Thanks to all of my guests for sharing their time and insights, there are now many inspiring interviews that you can listen to here on the website or over on your favourite podcasting platform.

Creating this podcast has been eye opening, uplifting and hugely clarifying.

When we focus on problems in the world we find more problems.
But the same thing happens when we focus on solutions.

There is so much more to be optimistic and joyful about than most people realise.

It’s worth noting though this content has never been simply about bringing hope.
The vision is much more about empowering each of us to step up and recognise that we can become part of a solution if we desire it.

That step of course is more complicated.

The systems around us are outdated and unsupportive of a regenerative, fair and healthy vision for people and planet.
They leave most of us short on time and energy so that seeking to make change can just feel exhausting or impossible.

But the desire for a better world is certainly strong, and the solutions are many.

I’ve decided it’s time to start seeing this need for change as an adventure!

All quests worth taking involve uncertainty and embarking on a path not yet paved.
The biggest challenges we face are often not difficult so much as different.

It’s certainly not easy to break the mould of doing things the way that we’re used to.

In 2025 We Are Carbon will be expanding and diversifying to make the path for regeneration clearer and more accessible in a wide range of contexts.
